31. October 2024

The main producer and supplier of heat in the city, the state-owned MH Teplárenský holding plant, is modernizing production. Coal burning will be replaced by gas, wood chips and waste fuel. PPA CONTROLL, as, won the competition for the supply of two cogeneration units.

The new technology will be part of the overall reconstruction of the heat and electricity generation source, the aim of which is to end coal combustion. "New energy source reduces negative impacts on the environment and supports adaptation to climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” explains Ing. Erik Vicena from PPA CONTROLL, as. They won the competition as the consortium leader together with Innogy Energo.

"After the cogeneration units are launched, brown coal consumption will be reduced by 26 tons per year, and CO000 emissions will drop by 2 tons per year," said Erik Vicena, describing the environmental impact of the contract.

The gas engines of the Bergen Engines cogeneration units in Žilina will have a thermal output of 2 x 9 MW and an electrical output of 2 x 9,5 MW. PPA CONTROLL will ensure their delivery together with generators and modules of the fuel system, lubricating oil, engine housing ventilation, control system and other parts, transport from the manufacturing plant, their installation, commissioning and subsequent service.

The delivery and installation of the entire new technology will cost more than 29 million euros. Part of this amount will be paid by the Modernization Fund. This is a support mechanism established by the European Union, through which it primarily finances investments in the modernization of energy systems and improving energy efficiency in the period 2021-2030.

PPA CONTROLL has recently modernized in a similar way heating plant in Martin, where they could therefore completely stop burning coal. "After the modernization in Žilina, the two largest cities in northern Slovakia will have ecological heating plants that do not burden the environment, thanks to our company. The inhabitants of the region will simply live healthier lives," said Erik Vicena from PPA CONTROLL.
